Busy Weekend

Tyler's first basketball game of the season was great. The kids had a blast. There was a lot of traveling, fouling, and double dribbles exactly what you would expect from kindergarten and first grade. They were so cute. I posted a video to youtube so that John can see.
When I first moved here I was told about campbellyardsales.com. Basically like craigslist without the personal ads for the base. I didn't believe people when they told me that it was addictive but it is. I have made so many great purchases. Yesterday I bought a basketball hoop for the boys $20. I'm still looking for a dryer. I'm begining to think that I'll end up not having one until I buy my new set after I get a few pay checks. I'm looking for one that is $50 or less because I really only intend to use it for a few months. You can find almost anything on there and most of the time the stuff is in good shape and a great price.
Tomorrow I start working. I'm nervous and excited. I want to get out of the house but the changes for kids concern me. Avery will be babysitting on the days that I work after 4. I'll post about my first day tomorrow.

A really nice day

I said before that I would make an effort to escape and evade the funk. Today I actually called a friend from the bus stop and we went shopping together. I know not much but this is a huge step for me. I figured both of us needed to go to the mall so we may as well go together. I had a really good time. I start working on Monday so I'll be busier and meet more people. That is always the hardest part when you have to move. Making new friends and finding a new place for yourself.
Avery has another dance tonight and the boys and I are watching a Sponge Bob Movie on Nick, eating popcorn, and drinking IBC Root Beer. Everytime she goes to a dance we watch a movie and drink Root Beer. Avery looked beautiful for the dance. She was so excited. To make the day even better... she found out that the boy that she likes likes her too. Junior High is a lot more complex now than I remember it. I'll post some pics of her when she comes home.
Tomorrow is another big day in our house. Tyler's first basketball game of the season. I'm going to try to record some of it and post it on youtube for John.

In a Funk

Every once in a while I just get into a funk and break contact with the world for a little while. During deployments this happens more often than other times and I have to work harder to breakout of it. I am going to try to call a friend or family member at least every other day for the next 2 weeks to keep me out of seclusion. I am also going to post daily while the kids are at school or after they go to bed. For now I am going to address my current challenge.

My current challenge comes in the form of our adorable, energetic kitten. Hobbes has recently begun peeing in corners and on the stairs. I spent the weekend pulling the rug from the living room and front hall outside and soaking them with vinegar and water. I soaked the floors and let them air dry before waxing them. It was a lot of work but he hasn't peed in his old spots since. I thought we were doing good until this morning when Avery found her belt and a notebook in her room moist and stinky. Then I saw the pee on the stairs. His cat box is clean and he is still using it. I have spent hours researching what his problem could be. He is only 12 weeks old so he shouldn't be scent marking yet. The vet's office said that he is too young to neuter. He goes to the vet next week for a check up. Until then I stocked up on vinegar and baking soda at the commissary this morning.

Today is my first blog. I'm kind of looking at this like a journal for me to post my favorite and worst moments from the day, all of those things that happen in life that you just don't want to forget.

John has been gone for 19 days now and I think we are getting into a routine. The web cam is both a blessing and a curse. I need to buy myself a timer and limit how long we can talk. I start working as soon as paperwork and what not are taken care of so that will limit my time and give more structure to my day. I love that he can see and hear me, and the kids of course. It is great for the kids because they don't have to hold anything to their ears and they can just say what they want too. I mailed a camera with a microphone to him yesterday. Hopefully, he will get it soon. It will be nice to see and hear him. He borrowed a camera for someone yesterday but it doesn't have a microphone. It was awesome to see him. We even had a date of sorts after the kids went to bed. Tyler is home for day 3 with Strep Throat. All of our conversations earlier in the day were full of "Hi Dad! Can you see me?" cute of course but we did have things to discuss.
Nothing is as good as having him home but this will make it so much easier. We could have done the same on past deployments but it would have required him to go to the MWR computer lab which was often busy and so we didn't even try it. Now he has Internet access in his room and can talk to us on his own computer on his own time no I waiting. I think it will help him feel connected to the family even though he is gone. I'm going to buy a wireless router next so that we can take him with us around the house. I'm thinking Christmas will be more fun if he can join us.
